Amy Rivera-Counselor, Mother, and Army Wife

My name is Amy Rivera. I am a mother to two amazing kids and a wife to my loving husband who is active duty in the US Army. My husband joined the army in 2010 following his father’s footsteps who served for over 30 years and retired in 2014. I was fortunate enough to get a lot of guidance about military life and being a military spouse from my mother in law. I truly enjoy the life we have and the opportunities that have come from being a part of this community.

Professionally, I am a school counselor with a Masters degree in education. I love working with children and have worked with them in various settings for over 10 years. In my free time I love traveling and exploring new places with my family and find joy in seeking out new adventures. One of my favorite parts of living this military life is PCSing and getting to know a different city, state, or country.

As a school counselor, I love advocating for children as well as adults. One area that I feel is important to talk about is self- care. Self-care is important especially now during this pandemic. Stress and anxiety can be high during these times and it is important to take care of our minds, bodies, and souls.

When people think of self-care one thing that comes to mind is doing things to pamper yourself like bath bombs or indulging in your favorite snack. While these things are true self-care activities there is more to self- care than just enjoying your favorite things.

To truly dive into self- care, you should look at self-care by categories: Physical, Spiritual, MentalEmotional, and Social.
